Rebels aim for IPL, India spots
The players who were involved with the rebel ICL are now jostling to take the next step. SportsCenter’s Achint Gupta reports.
After being granted amnesty by the Indian cricket board these players are now talking to the IPL franchisees to break into the cash-rich cricketing event.
The smile is back on the face of Abhinav Bali, who till about a month back was carrying around the ‘rebel' tag. And now after crawling back into the BCCI fold, the youngster is busy chalking out his future course. Bali was the highest scorer in the under-22 cricket before joining ICL.
"I am in touch with a lot of franchises, but can't name any as it is still in the process. But I am hopeful of getting a contract. Before that, I would want to perform well in India's domestic cricket, like I was doing before joining ICL," Abhinav said.
Playing in the Indian domestic championships is the first port but the final destination remains donning the India colours. And, Reetinder Singh Sodhi who has enjoyed this honour is craving for it.
"When I wake up in the morning I still see myself donning the India jersey. I want to take all those steps that can help me get back into the India squad," Reetinder said.
Playing in this hot weather is a coolant for these ICL players. They are hoping that someone somewhere is watching them and they can get a look in for India squad.
