PCB wants to attend WC meeting
Pakistan Cricket Board wants to attend a meeting of the 2011 WC Central Organizing Committee in India on July 4.
Having failed to get back its World Cup hosting rights in the ICC annual conference last week, PCB would now be hoping to get some respite through that meeting.
Sources in the PCB confirmed that the meeting will be held in India but so far the PCB has not got any invitation to attend it.
"In fact, PCB chairman Ejaz Butt is due to leave on July 3 for Sri Lanka to witness the first Test there and also meet Sri Lankan board and some government officials on the sidelines," a source said.
The source said Pakistan have practically accepted that they can not host the World Cup matches and they have also no plans to approach the Sports Arbitration Tribunal.
"Our only hope lies in Disputes Resolution Committee. We have moved the ICC Code of Conduct Committee (made up of retired judges) to look into our challenge against the ICC decision and form a Disputes Resolution Committee to resolve the matter," he said.
Even if it does not get a favourable decision from the Disputes Resolution Tribunal, PCB may not approach a court of law, the source said.
"Basically the PCB now realises the only way it can get back some World Cup matches is through a proper public relations exercise and unfortunately chairman Butt has ended up offending many of the ICC officials and those belonging to the co-host nations," the source said.
