Warne leaves poker for cricket

Shane Warne left World Series of Poker in Las Vegas midway to lead Rajasthan Royals against Middlesex Panthers.

Tuesday night's T20 match at Lord's would be his final appearance on English soil as a cricketer.

Warne, who has had a seven-year stint with English county Hampshire both as a player and captain, said he would be emotional on his England swansong but could not have asked for a better venue for his final appearance.

"Things might get a bit emotional today. Rajasthan Royals, my Indian Premier League team, are playing Middlesex Panthers in a Twenty20 match at Lord's in aid of the British Asian Trust and I reckon it will be my last appearance as a player in this country," Warne wrote in his column for 'The Times'.

"It should be a cracking game and a great way to say thanks for all the fantastic times that I've had at the ground," he added.

Warne said he would put his best foot forward in the match and was hoping to sign off with a win before re-joining the World Series of Poker.

"I arrived yesterday after the first round of the World Series of Poker event in Las Vegas, having won 87,625 in chips against an average of 42,000. It means that I'm still in the tournament and will fly back to the States straight after the Royals game hopefully with another win under my belt," Warne added.
