"Pak need specialist coaches"
Newly appointed Pakistan selector Ejaz Ahmed has said that the team was in need of batting and bowling coaches.
Ejaz also said the Pakistan Cricket Board had accepted his request to let him continue working as coach at the National Cricket Academy while functioning as a member of the newly formed national selection committee.
Ejaz, who was part of the 1992 World Cup winning squad, stated that Pakistan definitely needs a person who can combine the roles of working with the batters as well as improving the fielding standard of the team.
"I have spoken to the PCB about this and they are fully aware of my views on this matter," he told a cricket website.
The former middle-order batsman also blamed the defeats at the hands of Sri Lanka in the on-going Test series to a wrong mindset on part of the players.
"It was a very disappointing defeat and I blame it on the Pakistani mindset where they went into the days play in a very relaxed frame of mind," Ejaz said.
New beginning
Ejaz will work under the supervision of former Test spinner, Iqbal Qasim on the selection committee which will start functioning from August 1.
Ejaz also said he had advised the PCB to organise maximum Pakistan A team and academy side's tour to the stronger cricket playing nations instead of sending teams to places like Kenya, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh.
He said these tours are vital to the progress and development of the players.
"There is no point in organising academy tours to Bangladesh, Kenya, Zimbabwe and UAE as those tours only serve to benefit the opposition teams and there is very little gained for the Pakistani players in those tours. Instead the PCB should definitely be organising more 'A' team's tour to Sri Lanka, India, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and England as the younger players will benefit greatly from experiencing the varied conditions in those countries," Ejaz said.
