WADA protocol stuck at initial step

Right from resurrecting Tests to keep cricket drugs free, the ICC has its plate full, SportsCenter’s Sai Prasad Mohapatra reports.

The ICC's ambitious anti-doping WADA protocol is stuck at initial juncture as the Indian players have some reservations about it. Almost all the teams have signed up as WADA compliant except for Indian players.

But where exactly the problem lies?

The ICC's ambitious anti-doping WADA protocol is all set to go online on August 1, 2009. But what comes as hitch is that the Indian players are still not well conversant with the operational aspect of it.

While, almost all the teams have sent in their players' profile and log in details, the Indian players are struggling to find it user friendly.

Firstly, they don't necessarily have the access to Internet to update their whereabouts all the time. Secondly, most of them are finding it difficult to operate as it requires filling up online form time and again.

The ICC has taken a note of the complexities and is soon trying to have an educational programme for the players.

"There is an education programme that needs to be put across. We understand the difficulties and practical problems of the BCCI and Team India and I am sure we will work out a way. This period of July is for trials and we go live from August 1," said Haroon Lorgat, the CEO of the ICC.

However, sources from both the ICC and the BCCI have told SportsCenter that soon there will be meeting between the ICC and a key player representing India team to explain their difficulties. Following which the ICC will conduct another crash course for the players.

The ICC conducted similar crash course for the Indian team during their tour to New Zealand earlier this year.
