IPL's Pak recruits may get CL nod
Pakistani cricketers in IPL are likely to get government's permission to participate in the Champions League Twenty20.
Salman Ahmed, who heads the company Portfolio World, revealed that the IPL teams taking part in the Champions League have no problem fielding their Pakistani players but it all depends on clearance from the respective governments.
"We are hopeful the players whose franchises are in the Champions League can play in India because the IPL franchises are keen to see Pakistani participation in the next IPL season in march, 2010 as well," Ahmed said.
Pakistani players could not play in the IPL's second season after their government advised the board not to send them to India because of the tense relations between the two countries following the Mumbai terror attacks last November.
He said clearance from Pakistan government would be sought once the franchises send formal requests for the players to play in the Champions League.
"When Tanvir played last month for Rajasthan in the charity match against Middlesex, they sent a formal request to the Pakistan board to clear him," Ahmed noted.
Rajasthan Royals, who will play in the Champions League, have several Pakistani players on its payroll including Sohail Tanvir and Kamran Akmal, while Delhi Daredevils also have Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Asif.
Ahmed said though the Delhi team said they had terminated Malik's contract but the position was not clear as yet.
"Asif's contract was indeed terminated after he tested positive in the IPL dope tests last year and his financial issues have also been sorted out," he added.
Ahmed also said that flamboyant all-rounder, Shahid Afridi has been released by the Deccan Chargers after playing for them in the first season and would now be put up for trading in the next players auction.
"I can say this that teams are already quoting prices of up to USD 1 million for Afridi after his fantastic performance in the T20 World Cup," Ahmed said.
