Sami wants PCB's assurance

Uncertainty surrounding the future of 'rebel' ICL is giving Pakistani pace bowler Mohammad Sami sleepless nights.

Sami, who was one of the big name to shift loyalty to the Indian Cricket League two years ago, told PTI that he was willing to resign from the Twenty20 league if PCB assures him about reconsidering for national duty again.

"I don't know about ICL's future"

"If the board and selectors can assure me that they will seriously consider my name for national selection once again, I will leave the ICL," Sami said.

The 28-year-old, who played 33 Tests and 83 ODIs before joining the ICL in 2007, said uncertainty surrounding the ICL was playing on the minds of many players like him.

"My contract is still intact with the ICL but I don't know when the next tournament will be held or what is its future. All this is a bit of concern for me as a professional cricketer," Sami said.

Though the ICL organisers have said they plan to resume their event later this year but their recent decision to release around 50 local and foreign players has left a big question mark over whether the ICL would be held ever again.

Sami said that he was happy for the four players - Abdul Razzaq, Mohammad Yousuf, Imran Nazir and Rana Naved who had been picked again in the Pakistan team after resigning from the ICL.

Sami in a dilemma

The International Cricket Council and its member boards had kept a deadline of June 30 for all the ICL players to end their links with the unauthorised event but a dozen of Pakistani cricketers, including Sami, still remain tied up with the ICL.

Sami said that he had missed playing for Pakistan and was confident about regaining a place in the team.

"There are still spots open in the team for fast bowlers but in our position we don't know what to do because the board has not bothered to speak to us at all on this issue," he said.

Sources said the remaining ICL players were also a bit disappointed that their former captains, Inzamam-ul-Haq and Moin Khan were not pushing the ICL hard enough to clear their dues and also confirm the future of the league.
