“It must be recalled that first two edition of the Indian Premier League did not receive ICC’s ACSU officers, as the deal between tournament’s governing council and the ICC could not be finalised,” Lorgat said.
Lorgat denied reports that the deal could not materialize because the ICC asked for an exorbitant sum of 6.4 million USD.
“The ICC never quoted such an amount and even the current deal is almost five to six times less than the amount the media predicted.
“The use of Anti-corruption security unit officers is essentials for IPL and the Champion’s League as critics have claimed on a number of times that the shortest format of the game is an easy target for bookies and match- fixers.”
A media report claimed that Pakistan cricketers were approached by bookmakers in Colombo during the Test series against Sri Lanka.
The menace of match-fixing reared its ugly head again on Wednesday when Express, a mainstream Urdu daily, said in a report that some unidentified Indian bookies approached several Pakistani players during the second and third Tests against Sri Lanka in Colombo earlier this week.
