Black Caps in command

New Zealand dominated Day 2 of their warm-up match against a Sri Lanka Development XI.

Kiwi captain Daniel Vettori was just four runs shy of a century.

Resuming on 43 for one, the Black Caps reached the close on 437 for seven, a lead of 278, with four batsman making half-centuries.

After the loss of Tim McIntosh early in the day, Ross Taylor and Daniel Flynn put on 109 runs for the third wicket before Flynn was trapped lbw for 75.

Ross ploughed on with Jesse Ryder (48) to add another 93 runs for the fourth wicket but fell seven runs short of his century.

A mammoth 155-run stand between Vettori and Brendon McCullum (78) for the seventh wicket put the game beyond the hosts after they had pulled things back with three quick wickets to reduce the New Zealanders to 258 for six.

Vettori's unbeaten 96 came off 117 balls and included nine fours and two sixes.

Leg spinner Jeewan Mendis was the most successful bowler with four wickets for 73 runs of 23 overs.
