KKR begins pre-season training

The Kolkata Knight Riders began their pre-season training under the watchful eyes of physio Andrew Leipus.

However, KKR are without their icon player Sourav Ganguly at the Eden Gardens on Monday.

Only a handful of Bengal players attended the training, which they termed as 'fitness test', as no outstation players did turn up as well.

The actual rigours will begin on August 12 under trainer Adrian Le Roux who is yet to arrive, the players said.

The pre-season training will go on till August 14.

On Monday, last season's Bengal captain Laxmi Ratan Shukla, medium-pacer Ashok Dinda, Avik Chowdhury and Debabrata Das attended the test.

Ganguly to attend fitness test on Tuesday

Former India captain Ganguly will attend the fitness test on Tuesday, manager of the camp Jaydeep Mukherjee said.

"Each player was subjected to the physical fitness test for about one hour. I am yet to see the reports, so it's difficult to comment," Mukherjee said.

Meanwhile, Leipus denied to comment on the camp.

Saurashtra batsman Cheteswhar Pujara, who arrived here on Monday, too has been called for training, while Bengal wicketkeeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha will go for the test on Tuesday.

Knight Riders, by the way, are yet to announce their captain and coach for the forthcoming season.

It is, however, almost certain that the iconic Bengal left-hander, who was removed from the captaincy last season after then coach John Buchana floated a controversial 'multiple captaincy theory', would be reinstated as the capain for the IPL III.

For the coach's post, lying vacant since Buchanan was dumped after the team's bottom place finish last season, names of former India coach John Wright and Pakistan ex-coach Richard Pybus were doing rounds.
