Selectors tell Asif to train

Pakistani pacer Mohammad Asif has been asked to train at a camp set up for emerging players at the PCB's regional academy.

With the national selection committee still not satisfied with his fitness, the Pakistan Cricket Board has suggested Asif to train at the camp.

"Asif needs to bowl more overs"

Chief selector Iqbal Qasim watched Asif bowl in a local club match and told him to report at the camp being run by former captain Rashid Latif for under-23 players.

"He is still not properly fit and needs to bowl more overs to confirm he is match fit for a return to international cricket," Qasim said.

"That is why we have told him to go and train at the camp under Latif so that we can get a better picture of how fit he is," he added.

Asif has been named in the preliminary squad for the Champions Trophy despite being under a 12-month ban for failing a dope test in the Indian premier League last year.

The ban ends on September 22 and the ICC has allowed the PCB to select Asif for the Champions Trophy. But the chief selector made it clear that Asif's final selection would depend solely on his match fitness.
