Lahore Test's most affected victim

The most affected victim of the Lahore Test match (Pakistan vs Sri Lanka) -- Ahsan Raza, is eyeing a comeback.

Raza is eyeing a comeback in the "home" series against New Zealand in UAE.

The umpire was travelling to the Gaddafi Stadium on the third day of the second Test when he was shot in the back and got critically wounded in a terrorist attack aimed at the Sri Lanka squad.

Speaking from Lahore, Ahsan said, "Nearly six months after my near brush with death, I have recuperated and my doctors have declared me fit to umpire in a match. The medical fitness certificate has been forwarded to the ICC via Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

"I am hoping to get my next assignment for the ODI and Twenty20 matches against New Zealand to be played in Abu Dhabi and Dubai Sports City (DSC) soon after the Champions Trophy," the 36-year-old ICC's Emirates International Panel of Umpires (TV umpire) added.

Ahsan Raza was a wicketkeeper and tailend batsman who took up umpiring after retiring as a player.

The last six months were indeed very horrifying for the umpire during which he lost his younger sister (due to cancer) to whom he was very close.

The umpire's family is hoping to get some compensation, which was announced by the ICC for the Lahore Test victims.

The ICC's Elite Panel umpire and fellow Pakistani Aleem Dar has been giving Rs. 5000 every month to the family of the driver who lost his life while carrying match-officials in a mini-bus during this Lahore Test.

"As long as he is in ICC's Elite Panel, he would conntinue this gesture to the driver family", Ahsan Raza confirmed.

Aleem Dar had also paid Rs. 1,00, 000 to Ahsan Raza's wife, despite her reluctance to accept it.

The ICC Champions Trophy is all set to get underway. Have you selected your Super Selector team?
