Siddle wins ICC Emerging Player award
Australia's Peter Siddle was named emerging player of the year at the International Cricket Council annual dinner.
Siddle, who took 49 Test wickets in the 12-month qualification period, was the top choice of the 25-person voting academy, coming in ahead of team-mate Ben Hilfenhaus, England bowler Graham Onions and New Zealand's big hitter Jesse Ryder.
"Getting my baggy green in India and to represent my country is a great honour and something I dreamed of as a young kid," said Siddle.
New Zealand, meanwhile, claimed the spirit of cricket award in the second category of the night.
Ireland captain William Porterfield was named as associate player of the year.
"The only goal for us at the start of the year was to qualify for the next World Cup in 2011 and we have done that," said Porterfield.
"This will be massive for me to look back on in years to come but at the moment it is more about Ireland improving."
Sri Lanka's Tillakaratne Dilshan won international Twenty20 performance of the year for his unbeaten 96 off 57 balls against West Indies at The Oval.
