Mills, who began the eight-team one-day competition in South Africa in second place, has overtaken Sri Lanka's Nuwan Kulasekara after playing a leading role in New Zealand's progress to the final against Australia in Centurion.

Although they lost by six wickets, New Zealand's efforts have boosted them to fourth place in the world team rankings - a leap of three places. Australia remain top.
