"Shoaib needs surgery on left knee"

Pakistani speedster Shoaib Akhtar is "very co-operative", according to his London-based surgeon Dr. Andrew Williams.

"Shoaib Akhtar arrived to me for consultation on Tuesday evening (at Wellington Hospital) and I found him to be very co-operative during my few minutes of interaction with him," the orthopaedic surgeon told espnstar.com.

"He will undergo a left-knee surgery on Wednesday. He needs surgery only on his left knee. The right knee seemed to be alright," knee specialist Dr. Williams added.

Dr. Williams, who also performed surgery on England all rounder Andrew Flintoff a few weeks ago, had advised Shoaib to be admitted in Lister Hospital in the morning at around 11.00 AM and accordingly
The 35-year-old Shoaib is scheduled to undergo the surgery on Wednesday but the exact time of the operation could not be confirmed.

"He will need to stay in the hospital for one night. Post surgery, Shoaib will be under rehabilitation programme and it will take at least few weeks for the bowler to get back to the cricket field," Dr. Williams said.

However, the surgon confimred that Shoaib need not stay back in London during the entire rehabilitation schedule.

"He can be away and take proper care," Williams added.
