The Gleaner and the Sunday Observer quoted highly places sources as saying that the selectors had recommended Gayle be back as captain, and the West Indies Cricket Board ratified the decision.

The official announcement is expected shortly, along with the naming of the rest of the team.

There were several candidates in the running for the captaincy including Trinidad and Tobago skipper Darren Ganga who had impressed everyone with his leadership during the Champions League. Also believed to be in contention was all-rounder Dwayne Bravo.

The West Indies will leave for Australia on 9th November for a three-Test series to be played at Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.
