Kyle Mills blow for Black Caps

Kyle Mills blow for Black Caps

New Zealand's top-ranked one-day bowler Kyle Mills has been forced out of the opening game against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi.

Mills has been struggling with a sore shoulder and did not train on Monday.

He is expected to be available for the second of the three matches on Friday.

New Zealand are already without opening batsman Jesse Ryder, seamer Daryl Tuffey and all-rounder Grant Elliott for the series, while bowler Ian Butler, who suffered a knee injury playing for Otago during the recent Champions League Twenty20 tournament, is also a doubt.

Mills' absence opens the way for Tim Southee. He has not played one-dayers for the Black Caps since suffering a torrid time at the hands of India back in March.

Captain Daniel Vettori has also hinted at the likelihood of using two spinners with off-spinner Nathan McCullum expected to join his skipper in the bowling attack.
