Day two of SL practice match called off
The second day's play in the three-day practice game between the visiting Sri Lankan team and the Board's President's XI has been called off.
Wet ground conditions meant there was no play for the second day in succession.
The first day's play yesterday could not be held because of unseasonal rains in wake of the deep depression over the Arabian sea.
The match has been reduced to a one-day affair with play scheduled to start at 9.30 am tomorrow but the limited over rules will not be applied as the Sri Lankans do not want to get into the one-day mould before the start of the Test series at Ahmedabad on November 16, according to manager Brendon Kuruppu.
The decision to call off the second day's play was taken at 1300 hours by the two umpires, Suresh Shastri and Rajesh Deshpande.
It was bright and sunny today after the inclement weather and rains over the last two days in the wake of a deep depression over the Arabian Sea.
But the tracks surrounding the central wicket were still very damp and that prompted the umpires to abandon play for the second successive day after the complete wash-out on the opening day.
It was learnt that plastic sheets to cover the ground, apart from the central square, had been lent to the D Y Patil Stadium for the washed-out seventh and final ODI between India and Australia yesterday.
