"Tendulkar will score 100 centuries"

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif says Sachin Tendulkar will score at least 100 centuries before calling it a day.

"I see him continuing until more landmarks like 50 hundreds. 100 centuries is not difficult for him because the passion for the game is still very much there even after 20 years," Rashid said.

Tendulkar currently has 42 Test and 45 one-day hundreds to his credit.

Rashid, who played 37 Tests and 168 one-dayers before his retirement in 2003, played with Tendulkar for the Lashings club in England and he has only fond memories of his interaction with the batting genius.

"I played with him in England and batted with him too and every time I asked him 'before the ball pitches how do you come to know which kind of delivery is coming? You also pick up the length so quickly'. Tendulkar just smiled but didn't let out his secret," Rashid recalled while talking to PTI today.

"It was an honour playing some matches with him and sharing the same dressing room. Despite his success he was very humble and friendly with all the other players. I know he is a very patriotic person but in the dressing room he was very friendly with me as well," Rashid said.

The Pakistan captain also recalled how the presence of Tendulkar for a few matches had brought in the crowds and sponsors for the Lashings matches.

"His commercial value was undeniable," he said.

Rashid said he saw Tendulkar playing for the first time at Rawalpindi in a side match India played against the President's eleven in 1989.

"I was with Saeed Anwar who was playing that match and what impressed us most was the way Tendulkar handled Iqbal Qasim (a former Test spinner) on a turning pitch," Rashid said.

"He is such a classical player and it is a joy watching him bat," he added.
