
Mahela surpasses de Silva
Mahela Jayawardene, during the course of his unbeaten 204 againt India in the first Test established a record.

Jayawardene notched up the highest run-aggregate for Sri Lanka against India in Tests, overtaking Aravinda de Silva's run-aggregate of 1252 (ave.41.73) in 19 Tests.
Jayawardene's runs' tally of 1365 (ave.80.29) in 13 Tests is now the second best in India-Sri Lanka Tests, next only to Sachin Tendulkar's run-aggregate of 1412 (ave.54.20) in 20 Tests.
Apart from the feat, Jayawardene set a few important landmarks during the course of his Ahmedabad double hundred:
- With six double hundreds, he now shares a record for the most double hundreds for Sri Lanka with Marvan Atapattu and Kumar Sangakkara

- With five hundreds against India, he equalled Aravinda de Silva's tally, sharing a Sri Lankan record for the most hundreds (5) against India.
- Extended his Sri Lankan record for most hundreds (27) in Tests. In Test cricket, he shares his tally of centuries with Allan Border and Rahul Dravid and only eight players have recorded more hundreds than Jayawardene - Sachin Tendulkar (42), Ricky Ponting (38), Sunil Gavaskar (34), Brian Lara (34), Steve Waugh (32), Jacques Kallis (31), Matthew Hayden (30) and Don Bradman (29).
- Jayawardene's brilliant knock is now the highest individual score by a Sri Lankan against India in India, obliterating Tillakaratne Dilshan's 112 in the same innings yesterday. Overall, the innings is now his second best away from home, next only to the 240 against Pakistan at Karachi in February this year.
- Jayawardene (1025 at 73.21 in nine Tests) became the second Sri Lankan and the third batsman this year to complete 1,000 runs, joining Thilan Samaraweera (1153) and England's Andrew Strauss (1025)
- With his marathon innings, Jayawardene ensured Sri Lanka's first total of 500-plus against India in India, obliterating the 420 at Kanpur in 1986-87. Sri Lanka's 591 for five is now the highest by any team at Sardar Patel Stadium, Motera, obliterating India's 583 for seven wickets declared against New Zealand in October to November 1999.
