Vijay hopes Sehwag would get 400

After missing his maiden Test ton, Murali Vijay wants to see Virender Sehwag cross the magic figure of 400.

Only Brian Lara has touched the 400-run mark in the Test history when he made an exactly unbeaten 400 against England at St John's in Antigua in 2004.

"It was a fantastic innings. You learn a lot of things by watching him play. It is really great and no words are enough to describe this great knock. I hope he can carry on and get 400," Vijay told reporters after the second day's play.

Vijay, who was drafted into the playing-XI in place of unavailable Gautam Gambhir, scored a well made 87 before falling leg-before to Rangana Herath and in the process added 221 runs for the first wicket with Sehwag.

On his dismissal, the Tamil Nadu batsman said, "The wicket was doing nothing at that time. It was a bad shot."

He said although the team management did not give him any specific instruction he was happy to give India a good start, something which Gambhir has done consistently for the team.

"No instruction was given to me. Gautam and Sehwag are playing really well. It was a burden to give a good start to the team," said Vijay who had also put on 98 and 116 with Sehwag in his debut Test against Australia in November 2008.

Vijay felt Sehwag not only gets runs for himself but also makes life easy for his partners and he was no exception.

"It takes pressure off you basically because if you play normal cricket with Sehwag around, you get runs. He always keeps you in a calm state of mind. It is important to keep yourself calm while playing international cricket and he does it and in a lot of ways he helps me out", Vijay said.

"It's always good to play with him. He's a great batsman to play with. I always enjoyed his company. It was a fantastic experience just watching him play with ease," he said.

On being asked what advice he got from Sehwag when they walked out to bat in the morning, Vijay said his senior partner told him to enjoy the game.

"He told me, just keep batting and you will get a hundred."

Talking about his place in the team when Gambhir comes back, Vijay said , "It's a learning experience. I'm enjoying my time. I will get my turn but will have to be prepared for that."

The Tamil Nadu opener also said that the experience of playing alongside Muthiah Muralitharan in the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL helped him bat well against the off-spinner.

"I had played him a lot (in practice) during the IPL. That experience helped."

Simply out of the world knock, says Srikkanth

Chief selector K Srikkanth described Virender Sehwag's blistering unbeaten 284 as "simply out of the world knock" and said the flamboyant opener reminded him of West Indian batting great Vivian Richards.

"It was simply out of the world knock. The kind of shots he played was amazing. The way he was playing, it seemed he was playing an exhibition match, not a Test", Srikkanth said.

The Chairman of the selection committee said he regarded Sehwag as one of the best batsmen in the world.

"He is one of the best batsmen in world cricket now. He reminds me of Vivian Richards. Apart from Richards, I dont think any body can demolish the bowling attack like Sehwag did today. It was really an entertaining knock", Srikkanth, a former India captain, said.

"The good thing about Sehwag is he backs himself. He has that confidence and self-belief. He brings about a lot of positive energy. Whenever he has played such knocks, India have gone to win the match", he told a TV channel.
