India's magnificent triumph over SL
With their convincing wins at Green Park and Brabourne Stadium, India have registered their fifth series win over Sri Lanka in India

India's earlier four series wins were: by 2-0 in 1986-87, by 1-0 in 1990-91 (one-off Test), by 3-0 in 1993-94 and by 2-0 in 2005-06.
India, for the first time, have won two consecutive Tests by an innings under MS Dhoni's captaincy.
Overall, India's series win by 2-0, is their sixth over Sri Lanka -- their only series win (1-0) against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka was recorded in 1993-94 under Mohammad Azharuddin's captaincy.
Apart from the eight wins by an innings against Sri Lanka -- the most by India against a Test nation, India have posted four against England, three each against Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, Pakistan and Australia, two against New Zealand and one against West Indies. South Africa is the only country against whom India have not managed to win a Test by an innings.

With a win each by an innings at Green Park, Kanpur, and Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai, India, for the third time, have won two or more Tests by such a margin against Sri Lanka in India -- the first two instances being one each at Nagpur and Cuttack in the 1986-87 series. With a victory in the one-off Test at Chandigarh in 1990-91, India, for the first time, had won three successive Tests against Sri Lanka.
The 1993-94 Test series had provided the second instance when India won all three Tests by an innings margin -- at Lucknow, Bangalore and Ahmedabad. Before the said series, India had recorded three home wins by an innings margin during the 1992-93 season -- two against England followed by one against Zimbabwe. India's sequence of winning six home Tests in succession by an innings margin is their best ever.
India's comprehensive win at Brabourne Stadium on December 6 is their 10th in 17 Tests contested against Sri Lanka in India - winning % 58.82. Sri Lanka are yet to record a Test win in India.
For Dhoni, the just-concluded series win is the fourth in a row under his captaincy -- 2-0 vs. Australia in 2008-09; 1-0 against England in 2008-09; 1-0 against New Zealand in 2008-09 and 2-0 against Sri Lanka in 2009-10. Anil Kumble was named captain against Australia in 2008-09 but India's two victories had come under Dhoni.
Dhoni, the most successful Indian captain, has further enhanced his reputation, by posting seven wins out of 10 contested (three drawn) -- winning % 70.00. Amongst the captains with 10 or more Tests as captain, he is only the second not to have lost a single Test match apart from recording seven or more Test wins.
Warwick Armstrong, Australian captain, had recorded eight wins out of 10 contested between December 17, 1920 and August 16, 1921.
The most successful captains with a winning % of 60.00 or more in Tests are (minimum 10 Tests):
