Tamim doubtful for tri-series
The Bangladesh Cricket Board has expressed its doubt about opener Tamim Iqbal for a triangular ODI series in January.
Tamim had injured his left hand while batting in one of the matches against New Zealand on November 5. The initial scans of his hand had failed to diagnose the hairline fracture.
However, when his injured hand failed to recover, a re-scan confirmed the fracture. Post diagnosis Tamim was advised to take rest till December 7. He was even barred from practise session. According to BCB, Tamim, despite clear instructions tried batting several times for unclear reasons.
BCB said that Tamim used to complain of pain, swelling and inability to grip the bat each time he tried to play post injury. The board is also of the opinion that this constant over-ruling of medical advice would only aggravate his injury and thereby delay his recovery.
The board also expressed its doubt about Tamim's ability to recover before the next international event in BCB's calender. Bangladesh are going to host a triangular series, in January 2010, where the three neighbours, India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will be seen battling for the trophy. After that India will be play two test matches in Bangladesh.
BCB however, was not very clear about Tamim or his club facing sanctions for violating the board's advice. Tamim is one of the most consistent batsmen in the Bangladesh team. He at the moment has around 1864 runs in 66 one-dayers to his credit.
