Pak recalls ICL player Sami

Mohammad Sami was recalled to the Pakistan squad for the Test tour of Australia but he will require a NOC from the ICL.

The fast bowler, who has not played for Pakistan since 2007 -- the year he joined the unofficial Indian Crciket League -- is still on the payroll of the 'rebel' league.

"I have asked the ICL to at least give me a No Objection Certificate for the PCB so that I can resume my Pakistan career and I am still waiting for it," said 28-year-old Sami, who claims the ICL owe him outstanding payments since last year totalling over 10 million rupees.

The PCB said it had asked Sami to give his clearance from the ICL so that he can fly out for Australia immediately after that.

"We need a clearance from ICL to allow him to resume his Pakistan career," a board official said.

Sami, who had played 33 Tests for Pakistan, said he was delighted to be given a chance to resurrect his Pakistan career.

"It has always been my dream to play for my country again that is why I have been playing domestic cricket again and doing well," he said.

Sami has led his hometown Karachi Blues team to the brink of a spot in the final of the ongoing Quaid-e-Azam Trophy with his outstanding bowling.

The board said in a statement Sami was being sent to Australia on the request of the team management there to strengthen the bowling attack which already has Mohammad Aamer, Mohammad Asif, Abdul Rauf and Umar Gul.

"On the request of team management, selection committee has agreed to send Mohammad Sami as reinforcement player to join Pakistan team in Australia.

"The request was made keeping in view the burden on fast bowlers in demanding environment in Australia which can be harmful for their fitness," the PCB statement said.

Sami would be the sixth ICL player to return to the national team ranks this year after Mohammad Yousuf, Abdul Razzaq, Imran Farhat, Imran Nazir and Rana Naved.
