Dhoni receives Padma award

India team skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Tuesday received the Padma Sri award from Ranchi government officials.

He received it after missing the opportunity to take it from President Pratibha Patil earlier this year.

"Thanks," Dhoni said with a big smile as he took the medal and citation from Jharkhand Chief Secretary, Shiv Basant at the state secretariat.

Dhoni could not receive the Padma award from Patil in New Delhi in April this year.

Meanwhile, a Bihar court last month issued notice to Dhoni directing him to explain why he had not attended the Padma ceremony in Rashtrapati Bhavan as his absence had hurt the sentiments of the cricket fans.

Dhoni is serving a two-match ban for taking 45 minutes extra in completing his team's quota of 50 overs in the Nagpur one-dayer against Sri Lanka.
