"IPL experience has been a boon"
Graeme Smith said the IPL experience has helped South Africa adapt to India's condition easily and take a 1-0 lead.
The visitors won by an innings and six runs in Nagpur in the first Test of the two-match series.
Smith, who plays for Shane Warne-led Rajasthan Royals team in the cash-awash tournament, said prior to the series against India they analysed IPL footage of the Indian players which gave them some distinct advantage over Mahendra Singh Dhoni's men.
"We have been exposed to a lot of Indian cricket through the Indian Premier League. We were able to plan against them (Indians) having seen the footage of the players from IPL matches," Smith said on the eve of second Test at Eden Gardens here.
"In terms of being successful in the last match, the team needs to take the credit of that. They have been very mature and professional. It's working in a really good way," Smith added.
On the Nagpur match, Smith said it was their homework and proper implementation of the plans which helped them.
"It's about adapting to the surface you are playing on. It's very important to put those plans into execution. To have the mental strength, to do what you want to do under pressure.
That's what preparation is all about," Smith said.
In fact, Dhoni has also conceded that South Africans did handle the spin bowling well and the exposure to IPL really helped them in the series.
"It's not that they can not play spin. They have players who can play spin well and the exposure they have got during the IPL is also helping them," Dhoni said.
