Player ratings: India vs South Africa

Here's a look at how the players from both the sides performed in the second one-dayer of the three-match ODI series.

India:

Sachin Tendulkar - 10

Sachin Tendulkar began his innings with boundaries on either side of the wicket off Wayne Parnell and hence, set the momentum. And thereafter he simply hammered the South African bowlers around the park with a dazzling array of cuts, pulls and drives.

The Master Blaster was at his best as he continued to pile up runs at an extremely fast pace.

In the process, he raised the highest individual score of unbeaten 200 in one-day cricket, from only 140 deliveries, studded with 25 boundaries and three sixes.

During his unforgettable knock, Tendulkar rattled up a record 194-run second-wicket partnership with Dinesh Karthik, besides sharing other valuable stands with Yusuf Pathan (81-run stand) and captain MS Dhoni (unbeaten 101-run stand), to take India past the 400-run mark in 50 overs.

With this record he has gone past the previous mark of 194 jointly held by Pakistan's Saeed Anwar and Zimbabwe's Charles Coventry.

MS Dhoni - 9

Captain MS Dhoni only dealt in boundaries and sixes to reach his half-century in just 29 deliveries to help India reach a mammoth total.

Dinesh Karthik - 8

After Virender Sehwag's early departure, Dinesh Karthik joined Tendulkar in the middle and played a great supporting role. He also began his innings with a couple of boundaries. He eventually reached his fourth ODI half-century.

Yusuf Pathan - 8

When Pathan took the field, the Little Master was already firing all guns. Yusuf also joined Tendulkar in the run-fest and the duo raised 81 for the third wicket off only 47 balls. Pathan added 36 runs including four boundaries and two sixes. The all-rounder chipped in with two wickets (9-1-37-2) as well.

Sreesanth - 8

S Sreesanth finished with impressive figures of 3 for 49. He quickly removed pinch-hitter Roelof van der Merwe (12) with his fourth delivery and then returned to claim the wicket of in-form Hashim Amla (34 off 22 balls) to ensure India register a comfortable victory. He added another wicket to his kitty later, in the form of Dale Steyn.

Ashish Nehra - 7

Nehra proved to be a little expensive but he chipped in with two important wickets of Jacques Kallis (11) and Wayne Parnell. He broke AB de Villiers and Wayne Parnell's 77-run partnership by sending back the latter for 18.

Ravindra Jadeja - 7
Ravindra Jadeja had a reasonable outing as he managed to claim two South African wickets.

Praveen Kumar - 5
South Africa's mammoth chase looked doomed as Praveen Kumar cheaply castled swashbuckling opener Herschelle Gibbs. But he just bowled five overs.

Virender Sehwag - 3
Virender Sehwag, who was declared fit only hours before the start of the match following a back injury sustained in the first one-dayer, looked scratchy during his brief innings of 9 runs.

Virat Kohli - 2
The youngster did not get a chance to bat during the match.

Suresh Raina - 2
Suresh Raina did not get a chance to bat during the match.

South Africa:

AB de Villiers - 8

AB de Villiers hit a remarkable 114 not out even as wickets kept falling at the other end. He showed the kind of defiance not seen in his teammates as he hit his fifth ODI century. He added 77 runs with Wayne Parnell (18) to delay the inevitable. But South Africa's defeat was just a matter of time by then. de Villier's unbeaten 101-ball knock had 13 fours and two sixes in it.

Hashim Amla - 6

Hashim Amla tried to sustain even as Herschelle Gibbs and pinch-hitter Roelof van der Merwe departed early. But he failed to hold on to his crease and fell for a well-made 34.

Herschelle Gibbs - 2

Chasing a huge target, South Africa began in a poor fashion as Gibbs (seven) gave away his wicket cheaply in the third over.

Jacques Kallis - 3
The experienced Jacques Kallis could not come up with a match saving knock and departed cheaply as well.

Mark Boucher - 3

Mark Boucher, like other South African batsmen, also could not sustain for long, even though he tried to rebuild the innings with AB de Villiers.

Roelof van der Merwe - 3

Roelof van der Merwe gave away the least number of runs as compared to the other Protean bowlers, even as he managed to take a wicket. But he, just like his other colleagues could not do much against the power-hitting by the Indian batsmen.

Alviro Petersen - 2

There was nothing much Petersen could have done with most of the recognised South African batsmen back in the pavilion. He also did not waste much time in joining his teammates in the dressing room.

JP Duminy - 2

His awful form continued in the second one-dayer as well. Today he failed to even open his account.

Dale Steyn - 2

Paceman Dale Steyn cut a sorry figure, bleeding runs in every spell of his and was hit for four boundaries in the 37th over by Yusuf Pathan and Sachin Tendulkar.

Wayne Parnell - 2

He earned a dubious distinction by conceding 95 runs (10-0-95-2) in India's total - the most by a South African bowler in an innings in one-dayers.

Charl Langeveldt - 2

Such was the impact of the power-hitting of the Indian batsmen that hardly any visiting bowlers could keep a good line and length, and Langeveldt was no exception.
