Former captain Shoaib Malik has decided to appeal against the one-year ban and fine imposed on him by the PCB.

Sources close to Malik told PTI that the all-rounder was upset after receiving a two page chargesheet from the board which stated that the inquiry committee set up by the PCB had found him to be faking injury besides spreading disharmony in the dressing room during Australia tour in January-February.

Malik had held consultations with lawyers after getting the letter from the board and decided to appeal against the ban initially to the board chairman and governing council members.

"The two pages from the board state that the inquiry committee has found him guilty of creating intrigues in the team, spreading disharmony in the dressing room and also faking an ankle injury in New Zealand," a source disclosed.

"He is upset and disheartened that he has been charged of serious things without even being given a chance to defend himself or cross question his accusers. If his initial appeal is not upheld then he will file a full fledged case against the board," the source said.

It is learnt that the captain (Mohammad Yousuf) and coach (Intikhab Alam) had complained to the inquiry committee that before the tour game in Queenstown, Malik pulled out of the match stating he had an ankle injury. .

"The inquiry committee has said that Malik faked the injury and got himself excluded from the playing eleven," the source added. The inquiry committee has recommended that Malik is not fit to lead Pakistan," the source said.

On the recommendations of the inquiry committee, the PCB had imposed bans and fines on seven players, including Malik.

Former captains, Mohammad Yousuf and Younus Khan have been handed indefinite bans while Malik and Rana Naved were banned for one year and fined two million rupees each.

The board had fined Shahid Afridi and Kamran Akmal three million rupees each and Umar Akmal two million rupees.

The PCB later formed a three-member appellate tribunal of former judges, giving the affected players 30 days to file appeals against their punishments.

Malik is due to leave tonight for Sharjah to play for one of the teams in the Bangladesh Twenty20 domestic league.
