Guyana reach Caribbean T20 final
Guyana survived an onslaught from Trinidad and Tobago's Dwayne Bravo to reach the finals of the West Indies Cricket Board's Caribbean T20 on Friday evening at Queen's Park Oval.
Bravo revived memories of his show for the West Indies in the ICC World Twenty20 in England last year as be smashed one four and six sixes in 55 from 20 balls, but even that was not enough to power Trinidad and Tobago to victory against Guyana in the first semi-final. The Guyanese held their nerve as off-spinner Royston Crandon took three wickets in a thrilling last over and ended with figures of four for 37.
Trinidad and Tobago were bowled out for 171 in reply to 175-7 off 19 overs. A crowd of 12,600 was in attendance and they were thrilled to bits as the match went down to the wire.
Guyana captain Ramnaresh Sarwan said: "It was a pressure situation and we handled the pressure well. I thought Bravo played a brilliant innings to bring Trinidad and Tobago back into the game but we kept our heads and deserved to win."
The result means that Guyana will advance to the CT20 final on Saturday, where they will face the winners of the second semi-final between Barbados and Jamaica. The tournament winners will represent the region in the Airtel Champions League T20 in South Africa in September.
