Barbados ease into finals
Barbados had a relatively easy path to the finals on a day where Jamaican players were just not in the mood to put up a fight.
Dana Hyatt’s innings put up a decent score for the Jamaicans but only in vain. Dale Richards and Jonathan Carter did a wonderful job with the ball to seal a six-wicket victory for Barbados.
Barbados had to do without Kemar Roach, who took a knock in practice, while Jamaica had Chris Gayle returning to their line-up. Neither had any sort of influence on the outcome of the match.
Marlon Samuels stuck at the crease for Jamaica for a substantial period. While Ryan Hinds and Dwayne Smith played their parts as Barbados kept the run-rate at par giving out only 30 runs in the seven overs.
Jamaica, losing momentum, lost five wickets in ten deliveries which concluded their innings at a score of 153.
Dale Richards gave his team a head-start by thrashing Andre Russell in the second over since the restart. Jamaican captain, Tamar Lambert’s defensive mindset, did not do much for his team either as he refused to bring in his in-form bowler Krishmar Santokie. Instead, Lambert himself took on bowling duties conceding eighteen runs in the fifth over.
Barbados put their foot off the throttle as Nikita Miller had Richards stumped out with his first delivery. Carter, then put his team in command as he struck twenty-one runs in the fourteenth over.
Hinds and Smith finished the job for Barbados sending them into the finals against Guyana opening up an opportunity to take part in September’s Airtel Champions League Twenty20.
