Ponting and Sarwan fined

Australia and West Indies captains Ricky Ponting and Ramnaresh Sarwan paid the penalty for slow over-rates in the first Test.

Australia had won the Test by 95 runs, but not after stifling a stirring performance from the West Indies bowlers.

Match referee Roshan Mahanama also imposed a 25% match fee fine on each of the players of the two sides after the teams were found to be five overs short after time allowances were taken into consideration.

In accordance with the ICC Code of Conduct regulations governing over-rate penalties, players are fined five per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount.
