Pattinson to be fit for ODI series

Pattinson to be fit for ODI series

James Pattinson, who was rested midway through the ongoing Test series against India due to a foot injury, has declared himself fit for the upcoming ODIs.

The 21-year-old, who was suffering from a stress-related foot injury, said he has started running again and should be fit for the one-day series against India and Sri Lanka, starting on February 5.

"I've been back doing swimming and bike riding and all that sort of stuff over the last three weeks, so I'll have a week of running and then I'll get back into bowling," Pattinson was quoted as saying by the 'Sydney Morning Herald'.

"At the moment we're looking to the start of the one-day series with a bit of luck, and obviously I'll go from there. Hopefully it holds up."

Pattinson said his injury didn't turn out to be as serious as it was first thought to be.

The youngster, who has taken 25 Test wickets since his debut last month against New Zealand, gave a thumbs up to Cricket Australia's rotation policy to preserve fast bowlers.

"I think the way cricket's going now there's so much cricket being played all over the world. You look at the IPL now and there are so many series on, that you probably have to (rotate).

"It's hard because you want to be playing every game. But I think bowlers are smart enough now to put their hand up and say, 'look, I do need rest'."
