ESPNSTAR.com's resident stats expert Rajesh Kumar brings to you the key numbers from India's victory against Australia at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday.
- India have won their first ODI against Australia in five games at Adelaide. They had lost the first four ODIs against Australia at this venue.
- India have lost seven and five out of twelve played at Adelaide - two against New Zealand and one each against Sri Lanka, West Indies, Pakistan, Australia and Zimbabwe.
- Australia's 269 for eight is their second highest against India at Adelaide Oval - the highest is 329 for five on January 26, 2000.
- India (270) have registered their highest total against Australia at Adelaide Oval, obliterating the 226 on January 26, 1986
- India's aforesaid total is their highest successful chase in Australia, eclipsing the 263 for five against New Zealand at Brisbane on January 11, 1986 while their highest successful chase against Australia in Australia was 242 for four at SCG on March 2, 2008.
- India's previous highest successful chase at Adelaide Oval was 239 for eight against Sri Lanka on February 19,2008.
- Peter Forrest (66 off 83 balls) has registered the seventh highest by an Australian batsman on ODI debut.
- Overall, eleven batsmen have recorded fifty or more in an innings on debut for Australia in ODIs. Phil Jaques is the top run-scorer for Australia on ODI debut - 94 against South Africa at Melbourne (Docklands Stadium) on January 20, 2006.
- David Warner (18) is averaging just 20.61 in ODIs - 268 runs in 13 innings, including two fifties - both against South Africa.
- Clarke's average, as captain, fell below 50 in ODIs - 1491 runs in 38 matches at an average of 49.70, including three centuries and nine fifties.
- When not captain, Clarke has averaged 44.00 - 5236 runs in 171 matches, including three centuries and 41 fifties.
- Clarke's 38 off 43 balls is his highest score as captain at Adelaide Oval, eclipsing the 15 against England on January 26, 2011.
- Forest and Hussey were involved in a fourth-wicket partnership of 98 - Australia's highest against India, obliterating the 55 between Steve Waugh and Greg Ritchie on January 26, 1986.
- Australia's highest for any wicket against India at Adelaide is 163 between Adam Gilchrist and Mark Waugh for the first wicket on January 26, 2000.
- Ricky Ponting, in his last five innings in ODIs, has recorded 10, 11, 2, 1 & 6.
- Ponting is averaging 3.00 in the CB series - 9 runs in three innings at a strike rate of 30.00.
- Ponting has recorded a century, four fifties and four ducks in 15 innings at Adelaide Oval - 445 runs at an average of 37.08.
- Umesh Yadav (2/49) has produced his best bowling performance away from home, outstripping the 1 for 61 against Sri Lanka at Bulawayo on May 30, 2010.
- David Hussey (72 off 76 balls) has posted his highest innings against India, surpassing the 61 not out at MCG on February 5, 2012.
- Hussey has aggregated 171 runs in three matches against India at an average of 171.00. He is the leading Australian run-getter in the Commonwealth Bank series, 2012
- Hussey's second fifty against India is his eighth in ODIs.
- Daniel Christian and Hussey were associated in a 56-run stand for the fifth wicket - Australia's second highest against India at Adelaide, next only to the 92 between Greg Matthews and Steve Waugh on January 26, 1986.
- Ravindra Jadeja (10-0-50-0) has recorded his worst figures against Australia in Australia, obliterating his figures of 2.4-0-41-0 against Australia at MCG on February 5, 2012.
- Daniel Christian (38) has registered his highest innings in ODIs, surpassing the 33 against Sri Lanka at WACA Ground, Perth on February 10, 2012.
- Since registering 137 against South Africa in the Centurion Test in December 2010, the 52-run partnership between Gambhir and Sehwag is the highest by this pair in 15 international innings (excluding Bangladesh) overseas.
- The 52-run opening stand is India's highest against Australia at Adelaide - their second highest at this venue, next only to the 88 between Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar against Pakistan on January 25, 2000.
- Gautam Gambhir (92) has posted his highest innings at Adelaide Oval, eclipsing the 34 against Australia on February 17, 2008.
- Gambhir's 92 is his third highest in Australia, next only to the 113 against Australia at SCG on February 24, 2008 and 102 not out against Sri Lanka at Brisbane on February 5, 2008.
- Gambhir is averaging 53.70 in ODIs in Australia - 537 runs in 12 matches, including two centuries and two fifties.
- Gambhir's fourth fifty against Australia is his 29th in ODIs.
- Gambhir's 92 is the highest score by an Indian batsman against Australia at Adelaide, eclipsing the 77 off 110 balls by Sunil Gavaskar on January 26, 1986.
- Gambhir's aforesaid innings is the fourth highest by an Indian batsman in a winning cause against Australia in Australia - the top three innings being 117 not out by Sachin Tendulkar at SCG on March 2, 2008; 103 not out by VVS Laxman at Brisbane on January 18, 2004 and 93 not out by Kris Srikkanth at Melbourne on March 3, 1985.
- Gambhir got his 12th Man of the Match award - his first against Australia.
- Since posting 65 off 90 balls against Australia at Mohali on October 29, 2006, Sehwag is without a fifty in eleven innings against Australia in ODIs.
- Rohit Sharma (33) has posted his highest against Australia at Adelaide in ODIs, surpassing the 1 on February 24, 2008.
- Suresh Raina (38) has recorde his highest innings in Australia in ODIs, outstripping the 24 against Sri Lanka at Perth on February 8, 2012.
- The 76-run stand between Gambhir and Sharma is an Indian record against Australia at Adelaide, outstripping the 34 between Gavaskar and Vengsarkar on January 26, 1986.
- In fact, the aforesaid partnership is the highest for India at Adelaide in ODIs, bettering the 75 between Sanjay Manjrekar and Sachin Tendulkar against the West Indies on December 14, 1991.
- Dhoni is averaging 104.89 in successful chases (1993 runs in 49 innings). His aggregate includes two centuries and 14 fifties. He is the only one to amass 1000 runs apart from averaging 100-plus in ODIs while chasing successfully.
- Clint McKay (3/53) has produced his second best bowling performance against India, next only to the 4 for 20 at MCG on Feb.5, 2012.
