Bracewell wants focus
New Zealand coach John Bracewell hopes players stay in touch with the importance of Test cricket as T20 fever takes hold.
Bracewell is as excited as anyone at the big money now up for grabs via the Indian Cricket League, Indian Premier League and Champions League in the shortened version of the game.
But, speaking ahead of the Twenty20 and one-day internationals with England during the next month, Bracewell said: "We all wake up in the morning and can't wait to open the newspapers and see what is happening in the world game at the moment.
"That is how fast it is changing. It is quite a remarkable part of history to be involved in this particular sport. It excites me. When you are part of a watershed moment in history, it is always exciting.
"It is the excitement - but there is also the danger that we don't lose focus on the events of Test cricket, that we stay in touch with what is reality.
"There are some fantasy type numbers that are being flicked about and it is about trying to keep everyone's head level.
"But one thing you don't worry yourself about is the India thing. Let's go back to the eight dollars, five cents a day when I first started. Hell, that was tax free!"
Bracewell insisted he intends to see out the remaining 10 months of his contract with New Zealand and he is excited with the group of players he is currently working with.
He said: "I am contracted through to April, the end of our season, and as far as I am concerned I will see that through, form permitting. You've got to keep winning or trying to win anyway.
"I'm really enjoying working with this bunch of guys and if we can stay patient with them in terms of international Test cricket, they will become a better side.
"They are reasonably competitive, and they will be a competitive one-day side for a while, but we just need to be more competitive in Test cricket and you can't do that without experience."
New Zealand lost the Test series 2-0 against England but Bracewell said: "Let's not go down the revenge route in the one-dayers. We will be trying to win the games, simple as that."
The Black Caps defeated Worcestershire by 95 runs in a 50 over warm-up at New Road, scoring 358-8 with Brendon McCullum hammering an 83-ball century, and then bowling out the home side for 263.
Former Gloucestershire coach Bracewell said: "I was pleased with the fact we got a fine day, that was certainly a bonus, and certainly the way we went about our business with the batting.
"We were a little bit rusty with the ball to start with but we came back pretty well once we got the pace of the wicket and our lines right."
