Akram: PCB leaks news

Former Pakistani captain Wasim Akram said the PCB is in the habit of creating controversies ahead of important matches.

Speaking to Mobile ESPN, the former all rounder said had PCB chairman Naseem Ashraf not made that comment about how embarrassed he was at the huge defeat to India in the Bangladesh tri series, he would have been "shocked."

"If this had not happened, then I would have been shocked. The Pakistan team would have been shocked with the fact that there was no controversy before the final."

Ashraf had told the media that the 140 run loss to India was very embarrasing for Pakistan. Subsequently, the Pakistan cricket manger was asked to explan the loss.

Akram was also critical of the overall set up in Pakistan, which constantly keeps leaking news to the public, breeding controversies and ill feelings.

"Pakistan Team, Pakistan press and PCB they have the habit of leaking news, sacking people before important matches. Something as important mental preparation does not affect them."

However, the legendary swing bowler said that though he did no think the team would be affected by all this, whatever was happening was bad for the image of the game.

I dont think the team will be affected by this but this is bad. I felt quite bad and the image of Pakistan cricket is tasking a beating in world cricket."

The highest wickettaker in ODI's believes there must be some reason for rumours that the PCB is not happy with coach Geoff Lawson.

He opined the coach needed to spend more time with the team, understanding the needs of the players.

"The Board feels that he is not able to give back to the team. Everytime he gets a break, he flies out. For me, the coach needs to stay with the team."

Akram said if Lawson did not tighten up soon, he could be in trouble.

"India-Pakistan coaches are sacked. And if the Pakistan team loses the final then he will be in more trouble."

Commenting on the Mohammad Asif drug saga, the former Sultan of Swing said he hopes the bowler gets out of the mess quickly.

"He made a mistake, he's still young. I hope he gets out quickly."

"PCB will set up an inquiry. But a PCB inquiry is not that important - sometimes, the PCB can fine you and forgive you and forgive you and even then fine you."
