Sangakkara displaces Hussey

Australia left-hander Mike Hussey has lost his spot on top of the International Cricket Council's Test rankings for batsmen.

Hussey burst onto the international stage in late 2005 with a string of high scores to quickly establish himself as one of the best batsmen in the world, however he has struggled in recent times.

In the recently-completed series against West Indies he managed 137 runs at an average of 22.8 to be displaced on top of the rankings by Sri Lankan left-hander Kumar Sangakkara.

West Indies left-hander Shivnarine Chanderpaul rocketed up to second in the rankings after a stellar series against the Australians which saw him compile 442 runs at an average of 147.33.

Hussey holds onto third place, while fellow Australian Ricky Ponting drops two places into fourth.

In the bowlers' rankings, Sri Lanka spinner Muttiah Muralitharan remains in top spot ahead of South Africa quick Dale Steyn.

Australia duo Stuart Clark and Brett Lee sit third and fourth respectively.
