BCCI to ECB: No ICL players

The BCCI has warned English counties with ICL players that they will not be allowed to participate in the Champions League.

The Board's decision that was communicated to the English and Wales Cricket Board comes just two days after BCCI president Sharad Pawar was quoted by an Indian daily as saying that English county clubs can select players from the ICL.

He had, however, added that the Board had the freedom to take a decision on the issue later, and that seems to have been the case during the Board's Working Committee meeting.

BCCI vice-president Lalit Modi said, "The Board will continue stick to its earlier stand and would not allow the banned ICL players to participate in any tournament backed by the ICC.

"We have given our perspective on the issue. We will discuss it with other participating boards during the International Cricket Council's meeting in Dubai next week where a consensus will be reached," he said.

The BCCI further claimed that if the English counties do not rule out the ICL players, India will boycott the tournament.

"We have made it very clear and now it is for the other boards to decide on the issue," Modi said.

England is the only country where the banned ICL players are playing officially in the counties. "Clubs from England who qualify can play provided the teams do not include players who are with ICL," the BCCI said in an official statement.

Earlier, the England and Wales Cricket Board had expressed its displeasure over the the BCCI's stand and claimed that all the players will play as leaving them (ICL players) would be a violation of English laws.

Modi, however, said both the ECB and BCCI are right in their own view points and there is no question of conflicts between the two boards.

"We are not in a conflict with ECB. They are right as far as their law goes and we are right as per our rules. We have our own perspectives and we will abide by them," he said.

The dates for the tournament have not been fixed as yet. The eight-day tournament is expected to be held in India late September after the Champions Trophy.
