Pak, WI to feature in Canada

Pakistan, West Indies, Bangladesh and Canada are set to battle it out in a four nation T20 tournament in Toronto next month.

Event organisers have confirmed the quadrangular will be played from August 14-17 and they believe that Pakistan's participation will be a huge boost towards revival of cricket in Canada.

"There were some teething problems initially but now everything is going according to plan," Noman Nabi, chairman of Sports International Marketing, the company that is staging the tourney said.

He also said that packed stadiums are expected for all games and a capacity crowd of 12,000 odd are expected for each game.

The tournament was in some real trouble last month when the original organisers for the tournament backed out.

"We only came in the picture last month and signed a MoU with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in mid-June," Nabi said.

The organisers also said that the reason for the delay in confirming the event was due to apprehensions in the minds of ‘Cricket Canada' because of back out by previous organisers but now since Sports International Marketing have paid the security deposit all doubts are cleared.

Canada has a huge Pakistani community and since the beginning of the tournament match with the Independence Day of Pakistan on August 14, the tournament is expected to draw huge crowds.

Canada earlier used to host India- Pakistan five match ODI series and these were quite a favourites in the European country.
