Mohammad Asif factfile

With the IPL announcing that Mohammad Asif has tested positive for doping, here is a look at the Pakistan pacer's career thus far.

1982: Born December 20, in Sheikhupura.

2005: January - Makes Test debut against Australia in Sydney but fails to take a wicket.

November - Signs for Leicestershire.

December - Takes two for 14 in his one-day international debut against England in Rawalpindi.

2006: January - Takes seven wickets in third Test as Pakistan win series against India 1-0.

April - Takes 17 wickets in two Tests as Pakistan win Test series against Sri Lanka 1-0.

July - Withdraws from first Test against England with elbow injury.

August - Returns for third Test and takes five wickets before the match is forfeited following the Pakistan protest against a ball-tampering penalty.

October - Withdrawn from ICC Champions Trophy after Pakistan Cricket Board reveal he has failed a drugs test.

November - Banned for one year by PCB doping tribunal.

December - Asif is acquitted by a PCB appellate committee. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announce their intention to appeal this decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

2007: July - CAS rules it has no jurisdiction under PCB rules and thus dismisses the case "with some considerable regret".

September - Before the 2007 World Twenty20 tournament, Asif is involved in a dressing-room altercation, during which he is struck with a bat by fellow fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar.

Shoaib is sent home from the tournament while Asif remains to help Pakistan reach the final, where they are beaten by India.

2008: June - Detained by authorities in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, for more than two weeks after a powder is found in his wallet as he travels home to Pakistan after playing for the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League. Asif is eventually freed when when the public prosecutor drops the case, citing "insignificance".

July: The ICC and later IPL chairman and commissioner Lalit Modi confirm a player tested positive for a banned substance during the inaugural IPL. An IPL statement later confirms Asif as the player in question.
