Champs League to be hosted in India

The first edition of the Champions League will be played in India this year, according to Lalit Modi, commissioner of the IPL.

The matches will be played in three venues - Jaipur, New Delhi and Mohali from September 29 to October 8.

Eight teams are expected to participate in the event that would feature the winners and the second ranked teams in the domestic Twenty20 events of South Africa and Australia, besides the winner and runners-up of the IPL.

Apart from this, one team from Pakistan will also be seen in action. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have ensured all cooperation on this front.

However, given the recent differences between the BCCI and the ECB over the Champions League, a team from England looks unlikely to play in the tournament.

Modi, though, remained unperturbed. He said if a team from England did not show up, then any team from either Sri Lanka or New Zealand would fill the gap.

The details of the event would be given a final seal in Mumbai on Wednesday at a meeting that would reportedly be attended by officials from the BCCI, Cricket South Africa (CSA) and Cricket Australia (CA).
