India reject ECB invitation
The BCCI have turned down an invitation by the ECB to play in their version of a T20 tournament to be held in Sharjah this year.
BCCI vice president Lalit Modi and IPL commissioner Lalit Modi had declared on Monday that India would host the T20 Champions League later this year.
The BCCI politely turned down ECB chief David Collier's invitation, saying that although India would not be able to participate, it wished the ECB all the best for the event.
BCCI's refusal to participate in the tournament is not surprising given that the Indian board had already declared their intentions. However, the ECB in a complete disregard for the BCCI went forward with their own plans for the Champs League.
The BCCI also rejected the offer because the ECB tournament would be held in Sharjah, a venue black listed by the Indian government after match fixing allegations.
Modi has also apparently informed all the IPL franchisees that they were only allowed to take part in tournaments organised by the BCCI, closing any likelihood of a team from India participating in the ECB league.
Collier had been quoted as saying to a channel: "I would be bitterly disappointed if all four nations aren`t represented by their two top teams. We will be discussing with our counterparts in Australia, South Africa and India to try to iron out the last few items within the rules and regulations."
