Mohammad Asif may be banned
SportsCenter India reports that Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Asif looks set for a ban for possession of drugs.
A fact fact-finding committe set up by the Pakistan Cricket Board has reported on Asif's detention in Dubai and indications are that enough evidence has been found to punish the paceman for possession of drugs.
PCB chief Dr Nasim Ashraf has already been given the report, prepared by a three-member committee made up of Shafqat Naghmi, Zakhir Khan and Nadeem Akram. It states that Asif was in possession of a banned substance in Dubai, although according to a source the amount carried was small.
Asif was detained in Dubai while returning to Pakistan from India after playing in the inaugural Indian Premier League. Although he was detained for 19 days, the Dubai authorities did not press any charges.
The chances of an outright ban though are now high if found guilty as he would have violated a central key of his contract.
