Langer leads the way
Somerset captain Justin Langer hit a brisk unbeaten 24 in his side's LV County Championship Division One clash with Surrey before the weather forced the sides to take an early lunch.
After losing the toss, the 37-year-old Australian got his side off to a positive start with five fours in 15 balls to help his side to 36 without loss on the first day of their match at Taunton.
Fellow opener Marcus Trescothick struck two fours and is unbeaten on 10 after he faced nine balls.
With little prospect of action in the Roses clash between Lancashire and Yorkshire at Old Trafford, the umpires suspended the day's play without a ball being bowled.
Rain ensured there was no play before lunch in the match between title contenders Durham and Nottinghamshire at the Riverside.
No play was possible at all in Division Two as the weather wiped the first session between Warwickshire and Essex at Edgbaston.
Pitch inspections are scheduled in Derbyshire's match against Middlesex and Glamorgan's clash with Gloucestershire.
