Durham captain Dale Benkenstein believes England "desperately" need Steve Harmison in their one-day team.

The England and Wales Cricket Board dashed the skipper's hopes of calling Harmison into the side for the match with Nottinghamshire insisting the paceman should rest after his successful return to the Test arena.

But casting his mind further forward, Benkenstein believes Harmison's extra pace and bounce is a must-have for England in one-day internationals and said: "I think they need him desperately in one-day cricket."

He added: "Especially in the last couple of overs of the powerplays and then going through the middle period where guys are getting ones and twos - if they get in they generally play it how they want it - but he's the guy who can let you still attack as a captain."
