Rudolph puts Yorkshire in charge
Jacques Rudolph hit a steady half-century to help Yorkshire establish a 124-run lead over Lancashire at lunch in their LV County Championship Division One Roses clash at Old Trafford.
Yorkshire resumed on 234 for two and Andrew Gale added 25 runs to his overnight 111 before he was caught by Glen Chapple off the bowling of Francois du Plessis.
South African Rudolph dug in and hit 54 off 77 balls, but Gerard Brophy (14) and Adam Lyth (one) both fell cheaply and it was left to Tim Bresnan (24 not out) and Adil Rashid to see the visitors to the break at 355 for six without further loss.
Surrey captain Mark Ramprakash played patiently to make an unbeaten half-century against Somerset at Taunton to help the visitors reach 135 for three at the interval.
Resuming on 47 for one in response to Somerset's 401 for three declared, Surrey lost Jonathan Batty after he was bowled by Alfonso Thomas for eight. But Ramprakash (52no) and Usman Afzaal (30no) steadied the ship and will continue in the afternoon session.
In Division Two, Middlesex slipped to 147 for eight and will take a narrow lead of 106 into the afternoon session against Derbyshire.
Wavell Hinds and Charl Langeveldt both claimed three wickets apiece as Middlesex failed to capitalise on solid starts from Dawid Malan (47) and Dan Housego (36).
Gloucestershire added 155 during the morning session to reach 339 for six at lunch in their clash with Glamorgan at the SWALEC Stadium.
Hamish Marshall (53) and Marcus North (52) both completed half-centuries before they were dismissed, while Christopher Taylor remains unbeaten on 74.
Essex were reduced to 155 for eight in a low-scoring game against Warwickshire at Edgbaston.
