Ashraf quits PCB post
Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Nasim Ashraf has resigned from the post.
Ashraf's resignation came minutes after Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf, facing impeachment by Parliament, announced his decision to step down.
"Since my biggest supporter and my leader, president Musharraf had resigned there was no point in me continuing as PCB chairman," Ashraf told cricketnirvana.com.
Ashraf's own tenure was filled with controversy, the biggest blow coming at the World Cup where Pakistan were knocked out in the early rounds and had to cope with the death of coach Bob Woolmer.
Ashraf offered to stand down but Musharraf refused to accept his resignation.
Musharraf's term as patron of the board was automatically terminated once he resigned from the post of president.
"Only the president of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan can hold the post of PCB patron," PCB chief executive Majid Khan told reporters.
"The new president of Pakistan will automatically become the Patron of the Board," Khan added.
