Spinners conduct Lightning torment
Chris Nash and Michael Yardy spun Sussex Sharks to a four-wicket victory over Lancashire Lightning which lifted them to the top of NatWest Pro40 Division One.
All-rounder Yardy did the early damage to remove dangerman Lou Vincent after he struck a 53-ball half-century and then later captured the wickets of Francois du Plessis for four and Glen Chapple for a single.
Rory Hamilton-Brown tied down the middle order at Hove to finish with two for 30 but it was the occasional off-spin of Nash that did the damage as Lancashire were dismissed for 183.
Nash got the key wicket of Paul Horton (56) before he removed Kyle Hogg and Gary Keedy cheaply to finish with three for eight. Nash (26) also chipped in with valuable runs at the top of the order with Yardy (48) but it was an unbeaten 58 from Murray Goodwin which provided the backbone of the innings.
In Division Two, Anthony McGrath led the run chase as Yorkshire got their promotion bid back on track with a seven-wicket victory over Kent Spitfires at Scarborough.
Chasing a modest 190 target, Yorkshire were an uncomfortable 39 for two after Ryan McLaren had dismissed Andrew Gale and Rana Naved-ul-Hasan in the space of three balls. But McGrath rarely looked in any trouble as he made his way to an unbeaten 85.
Sam Cliff claimed career-best bowling figures as a youthful Leicestershire Foxes side beat Derbyshire Phantoms by six runs with an over to spare at Grace Road. The 20-year-old seamer took four for 26 as the Phantoms were dismissed for 177 after Leicestershire had posted a total of 183 for nine.
James Harris and Dean Cosker gave Glamorgan's promotion chances a huge boost as they helped their side to a 12-run victory over Northamptonshire Steelbacks at Wantage Road.
Harris and Cosker ripped through the Steelbacks top-order, taking two wickets apiece for 17 and 19 respectively, as the hosts once again fell short with the bat after dismissing Glamorgan for 155.
And Surrey Brown Caps kept alive their hopes despite a bold challenge by Warwickshire Bears opener Jonathan Trott at Edgbaston. Mark Ramprakash's late charge to an unbeaten 54 took Surrey to 238 for five and the home side were in serious contention until Trott was seventh out for 92 - the Bears eventually succumbing to a 21-run loss.
