1994: February 15 - One-day international debut against India at Rajkot.

August 24 - Test debut against Pakistan at Kandy.

1995: March - Becomes the first Sri Lanka bowler to take 10 wickets in an innings - in just his fifth Test - as Sri Lanka win an overseas Test for the first time against New Zealand in Napier.

1996: March 17 - Helps Sri Lanka win their first World Cup by beating Australia in the final at Lahore.

2001: November - Takes 14 wickets in a Test match against West Indies at Colombo, claiming his Test-best figures of seven for 71 in the second innings.

December 8 - Claims a hat-trick on way to his ODI best figures of eight for 19 against Zimbabwe at Colombo.

2003: February 14 - Claims his second ODI hat-trick with the first three balls of the World Cup match against Bangladesh at Pietermaritzburg.

2005: December - Claims his 300th Test wicket against India at Delhi.

2004: September - Selected to the World Test and One-day International XIs at the inaugural International Cricket Council awards ceremony.

2006: December 22 - Makes his Twenty20 international debut against New Zealand at Wellington.

2007: April 28 - Plays in Sri Lanka's losing World Cup final team against Australia in Bridgetown.

June - Scores his maiden Test century against Bangladesh in Colombo. He scores an unbeaten 100 in what was his 97th Test match.

A great career indeed 

December - Becomes the third Sri Lankan to play 100 Tests when he appears against England at Kandy.

2008: August - Becomes the fourth bowler to reach 400 ODI wickets.

2009: July 19 - Announces his retirement from Test cricket after the series against Pakistan.
