Cricketers administer polio vaccine

R P Singh, Suresh Raina, Akash Chopra and Mohammad Kaif have administered polio vaccine to the tiny tots here as part of UNICEF efforts.

The cricketers joined in an effort to galvanise support for the pulse polio campaign.

At a function organised at a city hotel on Monday, the cricketers expressed concern that disease continues to persist in some parts of the country despite regular efforts by the concerned organisations.

The cricketers are here to take part in the UP-Delhi Ranji tie which began on Tuesday.

Other UP cricketers, who were also present at the function, stressed that of the 100 vulnerable blocks in the country, 66 are in the state and this calls for an extra effort on the part of the administration to eradicate the disease.

Acknowledging their social responsibilities, Singh said he would visit his district Rae Bareli to create awareness despite his busy schedule, while Raina appealed to the parents of all the children below five years of age to administer the drops so that their kids remain healthy.

Kaif said that he has been lending all his help to the campaign and would continues to do so.
