The director of cricketing operations of the Chennai team, V B Chandrasekhar, told espnstar.com that there was a media speculation that Dhoni will not be available for 10 days.
"He has been advised rest now. But he is capable of recovering quickly," he said.
"He will be back in the team against Bangalore next Tuesday if found fit."
Dhoni was hit on the right forearm by a Shane Bond delivery during the match against Kolkata two days ago.
He scored 66 runs of 33 balls in the match against Kolkata to get his team to a total of 164 for three wickets. Kolkata lost the match by 55 runs.
He got the Man of the Match award for this knock. Later, he also took a stunning catch to dismiss Owais Shah off the bowling of Laxmipathy Balaji.
"We will definitely miss him. He is a champion cricketer, a great skipper and one of the best strikers of the cricket ball," said Chandrasekhar.
"It will certainly be difficult to fill in the gap. It is a blow for us."
Dhoni, who is in Ranchi now, is expected to join the team on Sunday.
Suresh Raina will lead the team in Dhoni's absence.
The Chennai team will play Delhi on Friday and Mohali on Sunday.
